“A queer black woman from Arkansas who shredded on electric guitar, belted praises both to God and secular pleasures, and broke the color line touring with white singers, [Sister Rosetta Tharpe] was gospel’s first superstar, and she most assuredly rocked.” – Rolling Stone
A jaw-dropping lineup of artists join forces to pay tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the world of blues as a whole. Premiere Memphis vocalists Susan Marshall and Reba Russell share the stage with Sturgeon Bay’s own blues powerhouse Cathy Grier and Chicago-based/Door County-adopted actress/singer/writer, Lachrisa Grandberry. The foursome will honor the songs and spirit of legendary rock-gospel guitarist and singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, widely regarded as the godmother of rock and roll. Honoring this legacy and lineage, the vocalists will also share their own original compositions.
Door Community Auditorium – along with musical director, Paul Taylor—brings this “one night only” concert event to the stage with an all-star band featuring Eric Lewis on Guitar/Steel, John Lewis on Guitar/Bass, Solomon Lindenerg on Organ/Piano, Wayne Russell on Bass, and Paul Taylor on drums.
